Adventures In Recovery didn't start as an organization.

It started as one veteran trying to survive.

I'm Jim, founder of Adventures In Recovery, a program of Champions In Motion. After my service in the Marine Corps, serving two tours overseas, I came home carrying Complex-PTSD — something I didn't have a name for at first, only the weight of it. Like a lot of veterans, I didn't talk about it. I didn't know how, and I wasn't sure anyone would understand.

What has helped me through the challenging times, wasn't a program or a prescription. It was connection to nature and experiencing the healing power it has to offer. Movement, air, distance from four walls — it gave me something therapy alone hadn't: a way to process what I'd been through, on my own terms, at my own pace.

I started sharing that journey — the hard days included — because I knew I wasn't the only veteran who felt alone in this. What began as a personal recovery blog and a few adventure videos became something bigger: a mission to make sure no veteran has to find their way back alone.

That's why we started Adventures In Recovery. Not as a business, not as a brand — as a promise to other veterans that there is help, and there is hope, and someone who's been where you are is standing next to you.

Today, Adventures In Recovery operates under Champions In Motion, a registered 501(c)(3), so that every dollar given goes toward getting veterans outside, moving, connected, and supported — not just surviving, but recovering.

My story is the reason this exists. But this organization was never meant to be about me. It's about every veteran who's still looking for their way back.
